Brewery Artwalk Photos

The Artwalk was great fun, as always! Almost constant visitors to the studio and an enthusiastic response to my art made the weekend especially enjoyable. If you missed it, come by for the next one in October! You can also visit via LA Art Tours.

The iconic smokestack building. But there is -- and never was -- a
Paragon Iron company. That was painted on the building for a film shoot!

I had a cool new video display for this Artwalk! John set up two monitors
that featured slide shows of my work. You can see the one on the right
beginning to make a transition from one piece of work to another. I had
prints on canvas and metal on the walls, along with some
products. My tote bags were particularly popular!

Studiomate Yvonne Beatty's work is on the left wall; mine is on the right,
with the video monitors on the back wall. We also shared wall space in
the front room which serves as kind of a lobby for the studio.

Here's the poster I made that explains my history in the animation
business and how that connects to the type of art that I make today.

Two of many visitors who were very excited to learn that I had written
cartoons for Scooby-Doo, Smurfs, Fraggle Rock, and many other shows!

Thanks to partner John Semper Jr. for taking photos and for visiting.
It was so crowded that he had to park almost all the way to Las Vegas!

Auction + EXPO Contemporary + Brewery Art Walk

Lots of news! ~ Young mother, Nicole Saari, is the daughter of writer Genie Davis, whose work you might have read on the popular arts blog, Diversions L.A. Nicole has late stage Lyme Disease and requires expensive treatment not covered by insurance. Many local artists have donated work to live and online auctions to help raise funds. Take a look here where you'll find my 8-1/2"x12" matted and framed drawing entitled, "Artie Shaw," (above) available for only $125! That's far below retail or what you'd pay at Art Walk. Free delivery in the L.A. area, mailing anywhere at cost. You can help Nicole, plus enjoy owning an original drawing by me! Thank you.

If you've been following my art adventures for the last several years, you know that I was one of a dozen L.A. artists who were invited to be the first in the U.S. to create art on wine barrels for the BOTART International collection. If you'd like to know the story, click here to see photos and read my blog post about making "Tipitina," my painted wine barrel which is third from the front in the photo below. The barrel is painted with confetti shapes and black lines representing the streets of New Orleans, and has Mardi Gras beads on top! About fifteen barrels from the now large collection were on display last weekend at the EXPO Contemporary art show presented by Fabrik Magazine at The Reef in downtown L.A. Tickets are available here. These festive barrels are not for sale, but they are great fun to see, and they are always shown with plenty of art that is available for purchase.

And, finally, don't miss the Brewery Art Walk coming up on the 29th and 30th of April! Yes, the world’s largest art community is once again opening over 100 of its studios to the public

Located northeast of downtown Los Angeles, off the 5 Freeway’s Main Street exit, The Brewery sits on 16 acres packed with creative energy. During Artwalk, you can look forward to talking with the artists about their work, sampling the tasty fare of the many food trucks, and enjoying a beer garden hosted by our very own Barbara’s restaurant, all in an exciting, engaging environment.

The artists of The Brewery are known to be on the leading edge of the Los Angeles art scene. This is THE go-to art event in Los Angeles, so join us at The Brewery, where art lives!

I'm back at the location of my very first Brewery studio at 642 Moulton, E31. Map is below and you'll get a color-coded map when you arrrive. There's free parking on the surrounding streets and in the adjacent UPS lot, but please be there by noon to make sure you can find a spot.

Fine Arts Federation Show + Sneak Peek: New Brewery Art Studio

I'm catching up on posting. Somehow these notices ended up on Facebook and in my email that goes to newsletter subscribers, but not here on the blog.

FINE ARTS FEDERATION MEMBERSHIP SHOW: One of my digital prints on canvas was in this annual group show. Over 60 artists exhibited paintings, sculpture, ceramics, and more at the beautiful Creative Arts Center, 1100 W. Clark Ave., Burbank, CA. The show was up from March 3rd through March 23rd.

Announcing My New Brewery Studio: Take a peek below at 642 Moulton Ave., #E-31. Does that address sound familiar? It's the very first space I had at The Brewery. Yes, I've come full circle over the past few years. This time, five of us are sharing the studio, and the front area will be our group gallery space. Looks great so far, doesn't it?

I hope you'll visit on Art Walk weekend, April 29th and 30th, but if you'd like to enjoy a small group tour of about ten Brewery studios, check out the available dates at LA Art Tours.

"My 25 Year Art Retrospective" Concludes on Facebook with New Product Announcement!

In lieu of LACMA or MOCA offering a solo show, I decided to celebrate this special anniversary event on my Facebook Page by posting some of my art made over the past 25 years. Did you follow the posts? My 25th -- and final -- post was made on Thanksgiving Day, which seemed appropriate because I'm thankful for all of you who have supported and cheered me on over the years.

In that post, I also announced new product featuring some of my art. Take a look at some of the cool tote bags, pillows, and phone cases that are now available! Visit Pixels.com to order. More products will be available after the first of the year.

Fall Brewery Artwalk October 22nd and 23rd

The world’s largest art community is once again opening its studios to the public. This is not your average Artwalk! There are painters, photographers, printmakers, and sculptors, as well as artists who experiment with immersive 3D environments, LED light sculpture, high tech and high class furniture design, contemporary fashion and environmental design, new media and digital art. The artists of The Brewery are often on the leading edge of the Los Angeles art scene.

Located northeast of downtown Los Angeles, off the 5 Freeway’s Main Street exit, The Brewery sits on 16 acres packed with creative energy. During Artwalk, you can look forward to talking with the artists about their work, sampling the fare of the food trucks, and enjoying a beer garden hosted by our very own Barbara’s restaurant, all in an exciting, engaging environment.

This is THE go-to art event in Los Angeles, so join us at The Brewery, where art lives!

Visit my studio at 660 S. Avenue 21, #3, to see my latest work. Map is below. Free parking on the surrounding streets and in the adjacent UPS lot, but please arrive by noon to make sure you can find a spot.

This is my final Artwalk in this studio, but I'm happy to announce that I'll be moving to a new location at The Brewery very soon!

Hope to see you at Artwalk!

Additions to My Online Gallery for Hand-Colored Photographs

Because I've had some interest in my hand-colored photos, thanks to recent Facebook posts for "My 25 Year Art Retrospective," I've made more items available as small prints and greeting cards in my Red Bubble shop. You'll find my own work; my collaborations with my partner, John Semper Jr.; a few feature film stills; and some vintage photos that make unique and interesting cards. All of the color was added with photo oil paints and pencils, and, yes, it does take quite a bit of time. But it was great fun to do and I still love the results. (All the hand-coloring was done in the first ten years or so in my art adventures. Computer enhancements were added later – all the way up to yesterday!)

Visit my shop to read about why I like hand-colored photos so much. There are originals available for many of the images, so please let me know if you're interested. The colors are more delicate and quite beautiful, if I do say so myself!

Thanks for looking. Here are two examples of recent additions to the shop:

Studio News + New Work in My Print Gallery

Studio News: I'm sorry to say that I'll be leaving my Brewery art studio at the end of October. The leaseholder wants to use the space for other purposes. It's been a wonderful run at The Brewery, and who knows what the future will bring? I hope everyone will stay connected by following me here on the blog, on my Facebook Page, and on my website. There's one more Brewery Art Walk on October 22nd and 23rd, so I hope some of you will be able to stop by the studio then and say hello.

New Prints: I've just added art to my Fine Art America print gallery, and will be adding a new online sales outlet very soon for my original drawings and other work. Here are two of the new Fine Art America pieces, available in various sizes as prints on canvas, metal, acrylic, and paper. Both were inspired by music. The first one is from a series entitled, "Notes," and the second is from the "Skyline" series, which is inspired by the many cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, New Orleans, and others that have long supported a lively jazz scene.
